High School: Attended Capital High and played for Coach Tom Boatwright...was team's leading scorer and second-team Western Cascade Conference selection as freshman...did not play as sophomore because of injury or as junior because of U.S. Developmental Academy commitments...starting midfielder as senior...also played varsity football, kicking 41-yard field goal in Washington State Class 3A playoff game as sophomore and sidelined as junior due to injury...played for Washington Premier FC, reaching semifinals of Disney Showcase in Florida, USYS Washington State Cup finals and Far West Regional quarterfinals in 2006...won 2005 Premier League and Pacific Coast Challenge titles...In State ODP advanced to Regional Championships in 2007.

Josh Phillips' Collegiate Career

FRESHMAN (2010):  Played in 16 matches with 15 starts, coming off bench in match at Loyola Marymount...did not play in home match against Oregon State, missed home match with Saint Mary's after picking up fifth yellow card in previous match and sitting the mandatory one-match suspension and did not play in season finale at Santa Clara...picked up first collegiate point with home assist against Loyola Marymount.

SOPHOMORE (2011):  Started all 18 of his appearances, missing one match after fifth yellow card of season which carries automatic one-game suspension...first career goal a match winner at 94:14 in 3-2 OT victory at home against Loyola Marymount...also had match-winning assist in 1-0 victory over Long Island at University of San Diego Nike Classic...helped anchor defense that posted four shutouts, including back-to-back wins against Long Island and a 3-0 victory over Seattle, as team posted a 1.64 GAA...earned All-WCC second-team honors and was named to the WCC All-Academic first team with a 3.35 GPA in environmental studies.

JUNIOR (2012): Played in all 19 matches with 18 starts…eight shots, three on goal…has started 51 of 53 career appearances.

SENIOR (2013): Played for the Sounders FC U23 in the Premier Development League (PDL) during the summer…played in seven matches and 497 minutes…Sounders FC U23 finished 4-5-5 for fourth in Western Conference Northern Division with 17 points…scored lone goal of the season in stoppage time (94th minute) to forge 3-3 tie with Kitsap Pumas after Pumas had taken 3-2 advantage in stoppage time…started all 18 of his appearances, missing Nov. 8 match at San Diego after suffering hamstring injury at home against Santa Clara the previous match…instrumental in Gonzaga allowing opponents just 0.95 goals/match, the lowest total since a 0.71 in 2007…10 wins for the Bulldogs marked the first double-digit wins season since 2000, and Gonzaga’s 5-4-3 WCC record for third place is the highest finish since 2008…became second Bulldog to receive WCC Defender of the Year honors, joining Nick Barclay in 2008.

Misc.:  3.7 GPA…Honor Society member…Student Body officer throughout high school…participated in 2006 “Don’t Meth Around” presentation with Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna…active in King County Adopt A Road program…PADI open water scuba certified since 2009.
