GOLDEN, Colo. - Gonzaga University men's golfer Brendan Connolly earned a spot in the round of 32 of the 112th CGA Match Play Championship at The Club at Rolling Hills in Golden, Colo., Tuesday with a come-from-behind victory over Tristan Sanders.
Connolly, seeded 10th, claimed a 1 up victory over Sanders.
Fifty-fifth seeded Sanders held a 1-up lead on Connolly - who will be a sophomore in the fall at Gonzaga - going into the seventh hole. After Connolly squared things up on the seventh and eighth hole, Sanders pushed his lead to 3 up by the 12th hole.
Connolly won the next three holes to tie things up with three holes to play though. He then secured the come-from-behind victory by winning the 18th hole.
Connolly used an even-par 71, which tied in for seventh, in stroke play Monday to earn a spot in the Match Play Championship. He will face David Ramsden-Wood Wednesday. Ramsden-Wood, seeded 42nd, defeated 23rd seed Michael Tilghman 4 and 2 Tuesday.
