Alice Kim Moves Into Second; Bulldogs Lead Team Chase
INDUSTRY HILLS, Calif. - Freshman Alice Kim shot a 1-under-par 70 Monday to move into second place and help Gonzaga University's women hold onto the lead after two rounds of the Second Annual Folino Invitational women's golf tournament at Industry Hills Golf Course at Pacific Palms Resort.
The women are playing on the 6,067-yard, par 71 "Babe" Zaharias course.
Kim, who had an opening-round 76 Sunday, is at 146 after 36 holes and trails Tara Green of the University of Montana by four strokes heading into Tuesday's final round which will be a tee-time format beginning at 8 a.m.
The Bulldogs Victoria Fallgren moved into the top 10 in eighth place at 153 after rounds of 77-76. Han Wu and Tai Jade 'TJ' Kliebphipat are tied for 16th at 155. Wu fired a second-round 77 to go with Sunday's 78 while Kliebphipat had an 80 after an opening-round 75.
First-round leader Genavive 'Genna' Dodge, playing with a touch of the flu Monday, had three double-bogeys and nine bogeys for an 87 after her tournament-leading 73 Sunday.
"Alice had a great round," Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel said. "She was 4-under par through nine holes."
Rickel was pleased with the overall play of his team.
"We played pretty well through 12 holes, but let some frustrations get the better of us on the home stretch.
The Bulldogs are at 604 after two rounds, four shots ahead of host Cal State Fullerton. Montana is third at 609.
Rickel is anticipating an exciting finish Tuesday.
"We are looking forward to being in the final group tomorrow. It should be fun to get to compete and try to win," he said.
