SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team took the doubles point and won five singles matches to beat Weber State University 6-1 in a non-conference match Sunday at the Spokane Racquet Club.

The tandem of Prue Teitzel and Madeline Parker got the match started with an 8-1 win over Thais Kurer and Carly Lloyd at No. 3 doubles and the freshman-senior combo of Kylie Peek and Sophie Lantta secured the doubles point with an 8-3 win over Nittaya Phonharath and Michelle Warwick on court two. The other freshman-senior combo Kristina Zauere and Katie Edwards looked to complete the sweep at No. 1 doubles, but Ashley Tanner and Brittiny Moore won the battle 8-7 (7).

Zauere took home the second point for Gonzaga after cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Phonharath at No. 3 singles. Edwards got back on the winning track in singles after picking up a pair of 6-2 set wins over Tanner at No. 2 and Peek earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over Warwick at No. 4 singles to secure the win for the Bulldogs.

Parker earned the Bulldogs fifth point by besting Annika Karlsen 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Britta Stime closed out the day by beating Warwick 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles for her third straight win.

Although Teitzel won the first set, Moore bounced back to win the No. 1 singles match 3-6, 7-6, 10-7.

"The team did a great job today. It is always difficult to play three matches in a weekend, but I was very pleased with our team's performance today," Bulldogs head coach D.J. Gurule said. "The entire team was very focused today. We will take a much earned day off tomorrow and then start planning for Friday's match against Loyola Marymount University."

The Bulldogs and Lions will begin their West Coast Conference match at 11 a.m. The Bulldogs will also host Pepperdine University Saturday at 11 a.m. and will close out their home schedule with the University of Nevada Sunday at 9 a.m.
