SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University head women's golf coach Brad Rickel has put together another challenging schedule this season with four matches dotting the fall portion of the schedule and five matches on the spring slate leading up to the West Coast Conference Tournament.

The Bulldogs open the season Sept. 17-18 at the Oregon State University Invitational at Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis, Ore. It will be the Bulldogs first appearance in the tourney since the 2006-07 season, and the first time OSU has hosted a tournament since the fall of 2009.

Four tournaments on the Bulldog slate are familiar to the Zags. The Cougar Cup Sept. 24-25 hosted by Washington State University at Palouse Ridge Golf Course, the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational Oct. 8-10 hosted by the University of Washington at Sahalee Golf Course in Sammamish, Wash., the Folino Invitational Feb. 17-19 hosted Fullerton State University at Indian Hills Golf Course in City of Industry, Calif. and the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational March 12-13 hosted by the University of Hawai'i at Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course in Kaneohe, Hawai'i once again dot the Bulldog schedule.

Gonzaga will be returning to two other tournaments for the first time in a few years.

The Zags will be at the Cal Poly Lady Mustang Invitational Oct. 29-30 at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in San Luis Obispo, Calif. It will be Gonzaga's first time back since the 2008-09 campaign. The Bulldogs will close the regular season April 1-2 at the Challenge at Onion Creek hosted by Texas State University at Onion Creek Country Club in Austin, Texas. Gonzaga last competed in that tournament in 2010-11.

The Bulldogs will open the spring season Feb. 11-12 at the Golf Rush Invitational hosted by Long Beach State University at Yorba Linda Country Club in Long Beach, Calif., and will participate in the Anteater Invitational Feb. 25-26 hosted by UC Irvine at Santa Ana Country Club in Irvine, Calif.

The West Coast Conference Championship will be somewhat close to home for the Bulldogs as they head to Gold Mountain Olympic Club in Bremerton, Wash., April 15-17.

"This is a very challenging schedule that will feature some of the top teams in the country," Rickel said. "This will definitely toughen us up for the WCC Championship and beyond."

Rickel has a solid team returning, including 2012 WCC Championship medalist Victoria Fallgren, the first player in Gonzaga history to capture WCC medalist honors. The senior-to-be also qualified for the U.S. Women's Public Links and advanced to match play for the second straight year. She'll be joined by another U.S. Women's Public Links veteran in junior-to-be Tai Jade 'TJ' Kliebphipat who advanced to the second round this year.

Senior Genavive 'Genna' Dodge and returnees Alice Kim and Han Wu who contributed as freshmen a year ago, round out the veterans.

Incoming freshmen Raychelle Santos of La Quinta, Calif., and Angela Erika De Villa from Taguig City, Philippines, are also expected to battle for spots in the line-up.

"We have a tough schedule, but I know we have the team capable of competing at this level," Rickel said.

The program has continued to climb nationally. The Bulldogs finished in the Top 100 of the Golfweek rankings for the second straight season and cracked the Top 100 for the first time in the Golfstat rankings this past season. In 2007-08, the first year for Rickel, the Bulldogs were ranked 161st in Golfweek rankings. Gonzaga was ranked 85th this year after being 96th in 2011. The Golfstat rankings had Gonzaga 84th this past season, quite a jump from 135th in the first year of the Golfstat rankings in 2009.

Rickel put together another tough schedule in 2012, the 76.81 ranking equaling the toughest schedule in program history of 2011. This year's schedule is expected to equal, if not surpass, those numbers.
