Connolly, Johnsen Successful At Separate Events

SPOKANE, Wash. - Two Gonzaga University men's golfers had successful outings at separate events recently. Sophomore-to-be Brendan Connolly tied for third at the Colorado Stroke Play, while senior-to-be Travis Johnsen tied for 22nd at the 60th Oregon Men's Stoke Play Championship.

Connolly, playing at the Fort Collins Golf Course, shot a 54-hole 285 (69-73-67-76) over the par-70 course layout with rounds of 69-73-67-76. Connolly tied with Michael Harrington for third, while Steven Kupcho, a University of Northern Colorado golfer, overcame a nine-stroke deficit to claim the championship with a score of 283.

Johnsen, who struggled slightly the first two days of the Oregon Men's Stroke Play Championship, posted the third lowest round on the final day to finish tied for 22nd. Johnson shot a 78-80-71 for a 3-day 36-hole 229 at the Emerald Valley Golf Club. Michael Johansen, of Vancouver, Wash., won the title with a score of 217 (67-74-76).
