Blog 2: August 28, 2012

This past week was a great week for the team. We started off the week with serious focus. Coming off a tough loss to Washington State University, we were determined to set the tone and really get after it in training. We utilized Monday and Tuesday as recovery days for our bodies, but also focused on tactical training through video and discussion. While we lifted and swam, we also watched some video, learnt from our mistakes, and focused in on the good progress we made over the weekend. Though we lost our game to WSU, we saw a lot of positive play that deep practice could enhance.

We started off our 'Do Work' Wednesday with a tough morning lift, followed by some more instructional video. We focused on the good work that we did the weekend prior, and found some positive energy for our afternoon's practice. We finished off the night with our annual Phone-a-Thon, where we received a ton of support from our family, friends and alumni! This fundraiser is such a great event for us and provides a lot of funding for new equipment, our year-end team banquet and many other great opportunities that we are fortunate enough to have. So thanks to everyone for all your support and we appreciate every penny!

With a big game against the University of Idaho ahead of us, we hit training hard on Thursday focusing on speed of play while making sure we were smart and sharp on the tactical side. We all headed home for a good night's rest to come back sharp for the game. We jumped on the bus Friday morning all very excited and ready for the game. After arriving at Idaho's field, we got in a great warm-up and prepared for kickoff. After a long and trying 90 minutes we achieved our goal and took the 3-2 win! Though it was a tough game we knew we had to start our recovery for Sunday's game right away, and we took that seriously.

We used Saturday as a day for recovery and preparation for Sunday's game against Boise State University. Sunday games are always tough, but we were excited to be back on our home field with the support of our fellow Zags. With a huge crowd and a lot of energy, we stepped out on to the pitch to take the challenge. With great fan support and team focus, we earned ourselves another win; this time 2-1, and couldn't be happier!

Overall it was a great weekend for the Zags and we were proud of our success. Next stop, Nashville! Tune in next week to hear all about our first road trip, GO ZAGS!!
