THE BLOG IS BACK!! Each week a different Gonzaga University women's soccer player will recap the week prior. This week senior Morgan Manchester, a senior defender, shares the highlights from the past week.

Blog 3: September 3, 2012

This week was a busy week for our team! We lifted and trained hard to prepare for two challenging matches on the road in Tennessee. Our hard work paid off and allowed us to pull out 1-0 wins against both Austin Peay State University and Vanderbilt University.

Sophomore Kasey Rubosky stepped up to the plate and provided both of the winning goals this weekend. As a part of the backline, I would also like to give a shout out to my fellow backs for all their determination and diligence this weekend. We had worked all last week on providing better cover and leaning on each other a little more and all led up to our first two shutouts! Both wins this weekend were a product of one team coming together to be great.

What I love about road trips though, are all the memories you come home with from time spent together as a team off the field. So, I am going to share with all of you my top three highlights from our trip to Tennessee. My favorite part of the trip was our dinner at BB King's Blues Club. The atmosphere was amazing, dim lighting, beautiful stain glass artwork and live music! During dinner, Heather [Johnson] and Kellyn [Nelson] decided to showcase their talents on the dance floor. Come to find out, Heather likes to keep it simple with a little swag from side to side while Kellyn, who is normally pretty low key, was quite the firecracker!

Second on my Top 3 list was Tori Lee's rap debut.  We were stuck in standstill traffic on our way to our game against Austin Peay for two and a half hours when Tori busted out her hit single which included a little something about each of the players and staff. CLICK HERE TO WATCH.

Lastly, was Maggie-Moos. I think I can speak for the team when I say this, our heart rate monitors probably spiked when Coach Edwards announced to us in the locker room after the game against Vanderbilt that we could go to Maggie-Moos for ice cream to celebrate. Instantly, the room got really loud and girls started hustling into the showers to get cleaned up. It was a great end to a great weekend: two wins, two shutouts, and a good time with an amazing team that I call family!

Look forward to seeing all of you out at the Gonzaga Soccer Field this Friday as we try to break the attendance record when we host the University of Washington at 4 p.m.
