Bulldogs Host Dons and Broncos In WCC Action This Week
THIS WEEK: The Gonzaga University volleyball team returns to Spokane for the first time in nearly a month to host its first West Coast Conference home matches. The Zags face the University of San Francisco Thursday at 6 p.m. and Santa Clara University Saturday at noon. Both matches will be played at the Martin Centre.
ABOUT SAN FRANCISCO: The University of San Francisco women's volleyball team has a 10-6 overall record and is 1-2 in West Coast Conference play. The Dons played their first two WCC matches on the road and lost to the University of San Diego 3-1 but defeated Loyola Marymount University 3-2. Last weekend USF lost to then-No. 11 ranked BYU 3-1. The squad is coached by Gilad Doron in his sixth season at the helm. On the court Jocelyn Levig leads the team with 218 kills and 23 aces.
ABOUT SANTA CLARA: The Santa Clara University volleyball team is currently 12-5 overall and 2-1 in the West Coast Conference. Head coach Jon Wallace is in his 14th season and the Broncos have recent victories over Gonzaga and then No. 18 ranked Pepperdine University. On the court the Broncos are lead by Taylor Milton. The sophomore has 203 kills and 158 digs for the young squad.
GONZAGA AT PORTLAND RECAP: Last Thursday the Gonzaga University women's volleyball team traveled and defeated the University of Portland 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 27-25, 25-19) at the Chiles Center. The win was the first West Coast Conference victory for the Bulldogs. Three Zags finished with double-digits kills led by freshman Jordan Gasser's career high of 15. Gonzaga out-blocked the Pilots 11-5 led by senior Kylie Edinger's seven.

The Gonzaga University volleyball team faces the University of San Francisco Thursday at 6 p.m. and it is Dad-Daughter Date Night. For only $10 you can buy an adult and a youth ticket, two hot dogs and two sodas!
Join the Zags Saturday when they face Santa Clara University as they raise awareness of breast cancer. Only $2 admission for fans wearing pink and a FREE pink drawstring bag for the first 100 fans in attendance! It is Kids Day with $1 admission for kids (12 and under) and the first 150 kids in attendance will receive a free hot dog and soda! Members of the volleyball team will be signing autographs for fans after the match!
NON-CONFERENCE RECAP: The Gonzaga University volleyball team had a successful non-conference portion of the schedule in 2012. The Zags opened the year playing in the Northwest Challenge in Seattle, Wash., and picked up a victory over Portland State University but fell to the University of Washington and Boise State University. The following weekend Gonzaga hosted the Gonzaga Invitational and defeated UC Riverside and Eastern Washington University but lost to South Dakota State University. The third non-conference tournament was in Las Vegas, Nev., for the UNLC Classic where the Zags beat Texas Southern University and Prairie View A&M University before falling to host UNLV. The Bulldogs rounded out the non-conference in Tempe, Ariz., for the ASU Sheraton Invitational where the Zags beat Florida Atlantic University, Villanova University and UC Riverside with its lone loss against host Arizona State University.

SIX LETTERWINNERS RETURN IN 2012: Gonzaga returns six letterwinners from the 2011 season that is led by the senior trio of setter Mengya Wang, right side hitter Kylie Edinger and outside hitter Terran Poindexter. The three combined last season for 502 kills, 212 digs and 109 blocks for the Bulldogs. The Zags also have high expectations for junior libero Kristina Lavrisha, middle blocker Meredith Crenshaw and sophomore libero Kennedy Wesley.
SIX REDSHIRTS IN 2012: Gonzaga University volleyball is redshirting six athletes during the 2012 season. Freshman redshirts are middle blockers Imani Wimbush, Sarah Bradley and Paige Folger; right side hitter Halle McCullough and setter Lyndsay Palmer. Junior libero Kathleen Wright is also redshirting due to an injury.
GANTT BACK FOR HIS FOURTH SEASON: Gonzaga University women's volleyball head coach Dave Gantt returns for his fourth season at the helm of the Bulldogs. BULLDOGS PICKED NINTH IN WCC COACHES PRESEASON POLL: The Gonzaga University women's volleyball team has been selected to finish ninth in the 2012 West Coast Conference season according to a preseason vote of the league's head coaches. The Bulldogs received 11 votes in this year's poll after losing three starters from last years team.
