Zags Playing In Saint Mary's Invite This Weekend
THIS WEEKEND: The Gonzaga University women's tennis team travels to Moraga, Calif., for the Saint Mary's Invitational. Matches will be played on both the Saint Mary's campus and at the Moraga Country Club. The tournament championships will be decided Sunday.
HEAD COACH D.J. GURULE'S THOUGHTS ON THE SAINT MARY'S INVITE: "This weekend should be fun and a chance to play some elite talent. Some of the best west coast schools are here and it is an opportunity to see how we match up. I feel confident with our play so far this fall season so hopefully our success will carry over to this weekend."
WEATHER DELAY: Matches at the Saint Mary's Invitational were scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. Friday, but due to wet courts the matches will start at 10 a.m. The schedule will change also be changing. For more information visit http://www.tennisinformation.com/tourny/5/2/1/3/6/9/4/default.asp
INTERNATIONAL PRESENCE: The Gonzaga University women's tennis team has three international players on the roster. Freshman Isabell Klingert is from Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, freshman Franziska Koehler is from Warstein, Germany and senior Prue Teitzel is from Brisbane, Australia.
EIGHT VETERANS RETURN: Eight experienced Gonzaga University women's tennis players return for the 2012-13 season. The returning Zags are seniors Taurie Bjerken, Britta Stime and Prue Teitzel; junior Hanley Caras, and sophomores Sandy Dennett, Katie Edwards, Kylie Peek and Alexandra Tallas.
FALL SCHEDULE: After the Saint Mary's Invitational this weekend, the Gonzaga University women's tennis team will have one remaining tournament for the fall season. Oct. 19-21 the team will travel to the ITA Regionals in Palo Alto, Calif.
