Gonzaga Looks To Stay Perfect In WCC As Dons Visit Saturday
SPOKANE, Wash. - The University of San Francisco visits Gonzaga University Saturday for a 5 p.m. contest at the McCarthey Athletic Center, the Dons fresh from a 75-72 victory at the University of Portland Thursday.
Gonzaga had a modest two-game series winning streak snapped last season when USF took a 66-65 home victory, the second straight year Gonzaga had lost at USF. Gonzaga leads the series 44-22 and has won 25 of the last 29 meetings between the teams since the 1999 season. USF has not won a game against the Zags in Spokane since Feb. 10, 1989, when the Dons topped the Bulldogs 67-64 in the Martin Centre which sits next door to the McCarthey Athletic Center, a streak of 22 straight games.
Gonzaga is starting to take control of the West Coast Conference race after running its record to 5-0 following Thursday's victory over BYU. Saint Mary's College (5-1) is the only team with one loss, that coming at Gonzaga. The rest of the field has at least two setbacks. The Bulldogs still have road games with BYU and Saint Mary's. Gonzaga is trying to regain the WCC regular-season title SMC claimed last year that snapped a string of 11 straight by the Bulldogs.
