Bulldogs Take Undefeated WCC Mark On Road To LMU, USD
LOS ANGELES - Gonzaga University is back on the road this week to conclude the first half of West Coast Conference play, heading to Loyola Marymount University Thursday and the University of San Diego Saturday.
Both games are 8 p.m. starts.
Gonzaga leads the all-time series with Loyola Marymount 55-23 following a sweep last season that gave the Zags a modest 5-game winning streak in the series. Gonzaga won the first meeting in Los Angeles last season 62-58 and completed the sweep with a 78-59 victory in the McCarthey Athletic Center. The Bulldogs have won 34 of the last 37 meetings dating back to 1996. The last win for the Lions was a 74-66 verdict at Gersten Pavilion in 2010. Gonzaga head coach Mark Few is 26-3 versus the Lions while LMU head coach Max Good is 1-8 against the Zags.
Gonzaga is starting to take control of the West Coast Conference race after running its record to 6-0 following last week's home sweep of BYU and the University of San Francisco. Saint Mary's College lurks behind the Bulldogs at 6-1, but all other teams have at least two losses. The SMC loss came at Gonzaga. The Bulldogs still have road games with BYU and Saint Mary's. Gonzaga is trying to regain the WCC regular-season title SMC claimed last year that snapped a string of 11 straight by the Bulldogs.
