SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Gonzaga University completes its southern California road swing Saturday against the University of San Diego in an 8 p.m. contest.
The Zags lead the series against USD 60-20 and have won 30 of the last 32 meetings. The Toreros defeated the Zags 69-62 in the title game of the 2008 West Coast Conference Tournament and 72-63 in the 2003 WCC Tournament title game, both played at USD. The Bulldogs have won 24 straight regular-season games in the series.
The teams met in the WCC Tournament for four straight years from 2000-03 and from 2005-08, Gonzaga 6-2 in that stretch. Gonzaga head coach Mark Few is 31-3 against San Diego, while Bill Grier is 1-10 against the Zags. Grier's lone win was the 2008 WCC Tournament at San Diego in his first season with the Toreros.
Gonzaga set a school record for fewest points allowed in a 68-31 victory in 2011 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Grier was a Gonzaga assistant for 16 years prior to accepting the USD job in the spring of 2007.
