Zags Put Umblemished WCC Mark On Line Against Pepperdine
SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga returns home for a pair of West Coast Conference games this week against the Los Angeles schools. Pepperdine University visits Thursday for an 8 pm. contest with Loyola Marymount University in town Saturday for a 5 p.m. battle.
Gonzaga is 8-0 atop the WCC, leading Saint Mary's College by one game in the loss column, BYU by two and the rest of the conference by at least three games in the loss column.
At the end of the 1993 season Gonzaga trailed Pepperdine University 26-6 in their series dating back to 1965, but the Zags enter Thursday's game with a 43-31 lead in the series after taking this year's first game at Pepperdine 78-62. The Bulldogs bring a 23-game series winning streak into Thursday's game, and Gonzaga has gone 37-5 in the last 16 seasons.
Pepperdine's last win was 88-79 in Malibu, Calif., on Jan. 18, 2002. The 23-game winning streak is the Bulldogs longest current winning streak against a West Coast Conference team.
