Olynyk Repeats As January WCC Men's Basketball Player Of Month
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University junior center Kelly Olynyk has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Month for January, WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich announced Thursday.
It's the second straight monthly honor for the Kamloops, British Columbia, native.
He averaged 21.1 points per game last month, connecting on 64.5 percent of his field goal attempts (60-for-93). He pulled down 7.5 rebounds per game, and shot 45-for-58 from the free throw line for 77.8 percent as the Bulldogs posted an 8-1 record for the month. Olynyk scored a career-high 33 points in a win at Santa Clara University, and followed that with a 31-point effort in a victory over Saint Mary's College.
Also last month, Olynyk was named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy midseason watch list and was selected to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District 8 team with a 3.53 grade point average. He graduated in December and is currently enrolled in the MBA program.
Olynyk will lead the Bulldogs into action at home Thursday against Pepperdine University and Saturday against Loyola Marymount University.
