Men's Tennis Opens WCC Play Saturday Against Portland
SPOKANE, Wash. - West Coast Conference action begins Saturday for Gonzaga University men's tennis when the University of Portland travels to the Spokane Racquet Club for a 10 a.m. tilt. The Bulldogs are 4-2 overall and are 2-1 in the confines of the Spokane Racquet Club. The Pilots are 5-2 with both losses coming to ranked opponents.
MACDONALD'S THOUGHTS: "The WCC is a great tennis conference. We are excited and prepared to begin playing other conference opponents and get league play started on the right foot. We have been playing well and if we continue to execute and handle ourselves like we can, then we can be successful."
LAST TIME PORTLAND: The last time the Zags squared off against the University of Portland was Feb. 7, 2012 at Portland. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs dropped a tight 4-3 decision to open West Coast Conference play 0-1. Alvaro Nazal won in both doubles in singles for GU. Other Bulldogs on the roster that competed were Levin Guillermo, Vladimir Mijatovic, Olivier Jamin and Muzeen Ismath.
CAN'T TOUCH THIS: Gonzaga University men's tennis doubles partners Alvaro Nazal and Pablo Mosquera Pérez have been perfect in 2013. The duo is 5-0 in the spring and has played consistently and cohesively since the fall.
HOME SWEET HOME: There is no place like home for Gonzaga University men's tennis team. The Bulldogs have won 14 of a possible 20 points in the Spokane Racquet Club. The Zags have are 2-1 at home and have defeated Portland State University (6-1) and Lewis-Clark State College (6-1).
