Seattle University To Visit Women's Tennis Saturday

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University women's tennis takes a break from battling ranked opponents and will host Seattle University at the Spokane Racquet Club Saturday at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs are 2-3 in the spring with two defeats coming from No. 40 Saint Mary's College and No. 35 Washington State University. The Zags are 0-1 at home.  


LAST TIME SEATTLE: To open the 2012 spring season, the Gonzaga University hosted Seattle University at the Spokane Racquet Club. The Bulldogs defeated the Redhawks 4-3 with impressive victories from Katie Edwards and Kylie Peek. Senior Britta Stime also competed as the No. 6 singles player.  Edwards and Peek also won as the No. 2 doubles pairing.

FRESHMEN SENSATIONS: The roster of Gonzaga University women's tennis is loaded with youth. In singles action, freshmen Isabell Klingert (2-3), Franziska Koehler (3-2), Samantha Polayes (4-1) and Melanie Yates (1-1) are a combined 10-7. Koehler has not lost while playing as the No. 6 (3-0) and Polayes opened the season with four consecutive wins.      

FACING THE BEST IN THE NATION: Gonzaga University women's tennis team has gone to battle with three ranked opponents in its first five duals of the season. The Bulldogs have faced Intercollegiate Tennis Association's No. 69 University of Oregon, No. 40 Saint Mary's College and No. 35 Washington State University.
