Gonzaga's Alice Kim Named Golfweek Player Of The Week
SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University's women's golf team earned another first this week when sophomore Alice Kim was named the Golfweek Player of the Week.
Kim, from Honolulu, won the UC Irvine Invitational presented by KIA last week to help the Bulldogs to their second straight team title and give the Bulldogs individual medalist honors for the third time in as many outings this spring. Raychelle Santos won each of the first two tournaments for the Bulldogs this spring.
Kim won the tournament with rounds of 67-72-76 for a 54-hole total of 215 to tie the school record set by Santos last fall. Her opening-round 67 also tied the school record.
"I'm happy for Alice. I think the big reason is because the tournament she won came with a LPGA exemption," head coach Brad Rickel said. "That's real cool. It's nice to see. We've been striving to start playing on the national stage and to get some recognition in this way is a good thing for us."
Kim will compete in the KIA Classic March 21-24 at the Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad, Calif.
