Nazal Wins In Singles, But Zags Fall To San Diego
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Facing West Coast Conference foe and Intercollegiate Tennis Association's No. 51 University of San Diego, Gonzaga University men's tennis fell 6-1 at the Hogan Tennis Center Friday.
The defeat drops the Zags to an even 6-6 overall and 0-2 in WCC play.
Picking up the lone victory was Alvaro Nazal who impressed in his No. 1 singles match. Nazal out dueled Vizy Thibaut 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 to win his seventh match of the spring.
Vicente Varas battled to three sets but came up just short. Varas dropped 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (13-11) to Jakob Karnopp.
Nazal and Pablo Mosquera Perez also put on a competitive match in doubles. The duo unfortunately lost 9-7 to Victor Pugliese and Fitzgerald.
The Bulldogs are back in action this weekend when the team visits Loyola Marymount University for a non-WCC match in Los Angeles Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
