Bulldogs-Cowboys Set For March Madness Match-up Friday
SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University embarks on its 16th straight dance into March Madness Friday when the Bulldogs and Oklahoma State University square off at 1:40 p.m. PDT at Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl on the San Diego State University campus.
Gonzaga and Oklahoma State have met five times with the Bulldogs winning all five meetings, all of them under head coach Mark Few. OSU head coach Travis Ford is 0-3 against the Zags.
The last meeting was Dec. 31, 2012, in Stillwater, Okla., when Gonzaga captured a 69-68 victory to complete a season-sweep of five Big 12 opponents - West Virginia, Oklahoma. Kansas State and Baylor. Gonzaga captured a 73-52 New Year’s Eve home victory in 2010. Gonzaga also defeated the Cowboys 83-71 Nov. 27, 2008, in the opening round of the Old Spice Classic in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.; took a 64-62 victory in The Battle in Seattle Dec. 12, 2005, on Adam Morrison’s bank trey in the waning seconds, and defeated OSU Dec. 28, 2004, 78-75 in the All-College Classic in Oklahoma City, Okla., as the No. 12 Zags upset the No. 3 Cowboys.
Gonzaga is playing in its 16th straight NCAA Tournament and its 17th in school history, first making the dance in 1995. The Bulldogs have won at least one game in each of their last five appearances and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the fifth time in 2006. The Bulldogs lone appearance in the Elite Eight was 1999 when the current streak of NCAA appearances began. Gonzaga’s last one-and-out in the tournament was 2008 when No. 10 Davidson led by Stephen Curry downed the No. 7 Bulldogs 82-76 in Raleigh, NC.
