Phillips Scores Winner; Timbers U-23 Add Hamer To Roster
PORTLAND, Ore. - A couple of current Gonzaga University men's soccer players were in the news for the Portland Timbers U-23 team over the Memorial Day weekend.
Sophomore-to-be forward Clark Phillips, a native of Portland, scored the match-winning goal Saturday as the Timbers won their fourth straight match to open the Premier Development League season with a 2-1 victory at Vancouver, B.C. The goal was his first of the season.
Phillips also had a familiar face join the Timbers when Nick Hamer, who will be a junior midfielder this fall for the Bulldogs, joined the team. Hamer, a product of Spokane's Mead High, started all 15 of his appearances last year, recording two goals and two assists. As a freshman, Hamer was named to the West Coast Conference All-Freshman Team after being one of only two Bulldog players to start all 19 matches.
