Gonzaga Tracksters To Compete In Sam Adams Classic
SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University's men's and women's track teams will be back in action Saturday at the 7th annual Sam Adams Classic hosted by Whitworth University.
A couple of runners will be making comebacks for the Bulldogs. Freshman Maggie Jones will enter the 5000 meters. She's been sidelined since the season opener March 17. Junior Chris Boyle will also run the 5000 meters for the men as he continues to rehabilitate from a nerve injury.
"Maggie is back which is good," Gonzaga head coach Pat Tyson said. "Boyle will run a 5000 just to test himself. He's about two weeks away from being at full strength."
The Bulldog women will be without a pair of runners as Emily Thomas and Teresa Makowski both have personal obligations this weekend.
"This would have been an off week for Emily to rest her legs anyhow," Tyson said.
Otherwise, Tyson is expecting a healthy squad to compete Saturday.
Gonzaga's first competition will be the women's 1500 meters at 12:10 p.m. followed immediately by the men. The Zags will also have runners in the 800 meters at 1:35 p.m., the women's 5000 at 2:30 p.m. followed by the men at 2:55. The 1600 meter relay ends the day's festivities at 3:05 p.m.
