Johnsen Wins Match Play; Advances At Oregon Championship
TUALATIN, Ore. - Gonzaga University men's golfer Travis Johnsen won his opening round of match play Wednesday at the 103rd Oregon Amateur Championship at Tualatin Country Club.
Johnsen, seeded 15th following the 36 holes of stroke play Monday and Tuesday, defeated Justin Wiles of Klamath Falls, Ore., 2 and 1.
Johnsen had earned a spot in match play after tying for 15th after stroke play with a 36-hole total of 70-78-148.
The Bulldog senior-to-be will face 18th seed Steven DaSilva of Beaverton, Ore., Thursday. DaSilva defeated 47th seed Matt Newcombe of Ridgefield, Wash., 5 and 3.

Note: Gonzaga men's golfer Peter Gullickson finished tied for 29th at the 86th Washington State Men's Amateur Championship. Gullickson finished the championship - held at Eagles Pride Golf Course in Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. - with a 299 (77-74-76-72). The championship was held June 12-15.
