SPOKANE, Wash. - Another tough but exciting schedule is on tap for the Gonzaga University men's golf team in 2012-13 as announced by head coach Robert Gray.

"We're very excited for our schedule and the opportunity to put ourselves up against such strong competition," explained Gray, who will be in his 14th year at the helm in 2012-13.

Gray and his squad open the 2012 fall season with two-straight in-state tournaments. The Bulldogs begin the year at the Cougar Classic Sept. 10-11. The event is hosted by Washington State University at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course in Pullman, Wash. Following the Cougar Classic, Gonzaga will partake in the Kikkor Husky Invitational Sept. 17-18 at the Gold Mountain Golf Club - Olympic Course in Bremerton, Wash.

"It's definitely nice to start our first event close to home at Washington State," stated Gray. "We're returning five of our six team members from last year, with one incoming freshman in Sean Walsh. We will have a couple weeks between the start of school and our first event to see how everyone's playing and we'll be able to bring the entire team to our first two events."

The Kikkor Husky Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington, will kick off a stretch of three strong events over four weeks for the Zags.

After the Kikkor Husky Invitational, Gonzaga heads to Denver, Colo., for the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, hosted by the University of Colorado at the Colorado National Golf Course Sept. 24-25. This will be the second-straight year the Bulldogs are participating in the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite, having placed 10th a season ago.

The Zags then head to South Bend, Ind., for the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic, hosted by the University of Notre Dame at the Warren Golf Club, Oct. 7-9. This is the second time in the seven-year history of the Gridiron Classic that Gonzaga will be part of the field. The Bulldogs also participated in the tournament during the 2010-11 campaign.

Gonzaga closes out the fall season at the Bull Cullum Invitational, hosted by Cal State Northridge, at the Wood Ranch Golf Club in Northridge, Calif., Oct. 22-23.

The Bulldogs spring season exactly mirrors that of their 2012 spring campaign. It has four events that will lead Gonzaga into the West Coast Conference Championship.

The spring season begins with the Zags at the Snowman Getaway, hosted by Washington State University, at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz., on Feb. 25-26.

The Bulldogs then host the three-day, 54-hole Bandon Dunes Championship. This year's event, slated for March 8-10, will be held at Old MacDonald Course in Bandon, Ore. The University of Washington and Long Beach State University tied for the 2012 team title.

The Duck Invitational (March 25-26; Eugene C.C) and Wyoming Cowboy Classic (April 8-9; Talking Stick G.C.) are the final two tune-ups for Gonzaga prior to the WCC Championship.

For the second-straight year, the WCC Championship will be a three-day, 54-hole event. This year's tourney will be in Bremerton, Wash., at the Gold Mountain Golf Club - Olympic. Gonzaga is coming off their best WCC Championship finish in school history; having placed fourth in 2011.

Despite a still youthful team, Gray is excited about the potential this year's squad has.

"We were young last year and we're still young this year with four of our six players being underclassmen," explained Gray. "But three of those underclassman have a year under their belts and they started to get comfortable the last few weeks of the season, with all the changes that come with being freshman. It's going to be a fun year and I'm looking forward to seeing how we compete in this year's schedule."
