SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University men's tennis freshman Alvaro Nazal received his first All-West Coast Conference honorable mention singles, while the senior tandem of Scott Sullivan and Zhia Hwa Chong took home All-WCC honorable mention in doubles, as voted by the conference coaches Wednesday.

While this is Sullivan's second All-WCC honorable mention in his career at GU, it is his first with his longtime doubles partner Chong.

Nazal put together an impressive rookie season as a Zag. He posted 21 overall wins for second-most on the team behind Sullivan's 23. Nazal also posted 12 wins in the spring season, having played all but one match at the No. 1 slot. The highlight of the freshman's season was when he upset then-No. 45 Georgy Batrakov of BYU in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 10-6 back on April 6. Nazal also made an impressive collegiate debut in the fall season when he won one of the main draw titles at the Eastern Washington University Fall Classic.

After posting a team-best 15 wins together last season, Chong and Sullivan picked up where they left off and won 14 matches during the 2011-12 season to lead the team again. Thirteen wins were collected during spring play on courts one and two. In addition to upsetting then-fourth-ranked Finn Tearney and Alex Llompart of Pepperdine University, Chong and Sullivan became the first Zags in program history to receive a national ranking, checking in at No. 79 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Top 90 doubles team April 18.

The 2012 all-conference first team was selected by the conference coaches, based on overall season performance. All-WCC Second Team members were chosen based on the same criteria, plus performance at the recent WCC Championships.
