CHENEY, Wash. - (Feb. 16, 2012 - www.gozags.com) - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team continued to show dominance over Eastern Washington University as the Bulldogs claimed a 5-2 win Thursday to extend their win streak over the Eagles to eight matches.

The Bulldogs (5-2) grabbed an early lead by sweeping the Eagles (0-6) in all three doubles matches. Kylie Peek and Katie Edwards got the match started with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles and the team of Prue Teitzel and Kristina Zauere followed with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles to earn their team-leading eighth win of the 2011-12 season. The tandem of Madeline Parker and Sophie Lantta closed out doubles play with an 8-3 victory at the No. 3 slot.

Transitioning to singles competition, Edwards was the first to finish as the freshman picked up a 6-1, 7-5 victory to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. After the Eagles grabbed their first point of the match with a win at court four, Zauere followed with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles to help the Bulldogs win their third point of the match.

Although the Eagles picked up a win at No. 1 singles to cut the Bulldogs lead to one, Lantta's 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 5 slot secured the win for the Bulldogs. Parker closed out the evening with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 6.

"I thought we played a focused and smart match," Gurule said. "We are now looking forward to a couple days off to get healthy. I am really proud of the effort that our team has given in the last week. Four road matches in seven days is a lot to ask, but I am proud of how we stepped up to the task. Sophie really played well today and it was great for her to clinch the match. Kristina also continued to play well dictating a majority of her points. I also thought Katie served exceptionally well in her win."

The Bulldogs will return to California to play to play a pair of matches in Palm Springs, starting with Fairfield University March 12.
