Zags Fight But Drop WCC Match To No. 36 Waves

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University battled but dropped a 7-0 decision to 35th-ranked Pepperdine University in a West Coast Conference match at the Spokane Racquet Club Saturday.

Although the Waves (13-6, 7-0 WCC) swept in all nine matches, several Bulldogs (9-8, 1-5 WCC) kept their matches close. The teams of Kylie Peek/Sophie Lantta and Prue Teitzel/Madeline Parker battled at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, respectively, but each team lost to their opponents by a score of 8-5.

Katie Edwards came up short from forcing a third set in her No. 2 singles match, but the freshman fell to Ale Granillo 6-2, 7-6 (3). Sophie Lantta also battled in the first set of her No. 4 singles match, but the senior dropped a 7-6 (2), 6-2 decision to Arianna Colffer.

"We played well at times today, but we just couldn't keep it up through the entire match.  I was impressed with our play at two and three doubles."

The Bulldogs will look to send their three seniors, Lantta, Parker and Kristina Zauere, on a winning note as they welcome the University of Nevada to the SRC Sunday for the final home match of the regular season. The match starts at 9 a.m.
