SPOKANE, Wash. - Freshman Cabe Reiten hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 14th inning to propel Gonzaga University baseball 3-2 over the University of San Francisco in the Bulldogs 2013 Home Opener Friday at Patterson Baseball Complex and Washington Trust Field. Reiten had three hits and two of the Zags RBI's to support the excellent pitching efforts of starter Marco Gonzales and reliever Arturo Reyes.

Gonzaga wins its 10th game of the season and is 10-5-1 overall. The Dons fall to 7-10 overall.

Jumping right to the bottom of the 14th inning, Reiten stepped to the dish with two outs and runners on first and second. Don reliever Andrew Pulido delivered a ball that the Olympia, Wash., native drilled to left center to bring home Billy Moon, who was on second.

The victory was the first walk-off of the season for GU.

Senior Alex Bonczyk was nearly the hero for the Zags before Reiten hit. With runners on first and second with one out, Boncyk singled to center appearing to win the game but Nicholas Minteer was thrown out at the plate.

Both teams' starters pitched admirably. Gonzales (3-1) for the Zags went eight innings allowing just two runs while striking out six. For San Francisco, Abe Bobb went 7.1 also allowing two runs.

Picking up the win for Gonzaga was Reyes (2-0) who hurled six scoreless innings of three hit ball.

Offensively, both teams had opportunities to break away in the game. Combined, both Gonzaga (17) and USF (9) left 26 runners on base. The Zags did out hit the Dons 12 to 7.

Senior Steven Halcomb had three base hits and Moon had two. Mitchell Gunsolus reached base three times (one hit and two walks) to improve his team-best 13 game reaching base safely streak.

The Bulldogs and Dons continue its series tomorrow with a 3 p.m. first pitch. Starting for the Zags is senior Tyler Olson and San Francisco will counter with Alex Balog.
