BEAUMONT, Texas - Billy Moon struck out a career-high seven batters and Royce Bolinger's three-run home run was enough for the Gonzaga University baseball team to beat host Lamar University 6-1 in game two of a doubleheader at the YMBL Cardinal Classic Friday.

Although the first batter he faced hit a home run, Moon (1-0) didn't seem to let it bother him as he went on to allow four singles and a double in eight strong innings of work. His seven strikeouts passed his previous career-high mark of four, which he set at the University of San Francisco April 10, 2010.

Derek Peterson closed out the ninth inning allowing two hits.

Bolinger and Clayton Eslick both led the Bulldogs (5-0) with three hits. Brock Slavin had two hits and touched home plate twice. Eric Lane also recorded a hit to set a new career-high nine-game hitting streak.

The Cardinals (2-1) held the Bulldogs scoreless for the first two innings, but in the third inning, Steven Halcomb and Eslick hit back-to-back two-out singles to the outfield and Bolinger followed with his three-run blast to left field to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead.

The Bulldogs were able to add another run in the seventh inning. Slavin led off with a double to right center field and two sacrifice bunts by Lane and Halcomb brought in the Bulldogs fourth run of the game.

The Bulldogs added some breathing room in the ninth inning. Slavin led off with a single to the shortstop and after advancing to third on Lane's double down the right field line, Halcomb hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Eslick followed with a RBI single through the right side to give the Bulldogs a 6-1 lead.

The Bulldogs will continue playing the YMBL Cardinal Classic Saturday with another doubleheader. They will start the day with the University of Illinois at 9 a.m. PST, followed by Lamar at 4:00 p.m. PST.
