Pittsburgh Site Of Next Dance For Bulldog Men's Basketball
SPOKANE, Wash. - For the 14th straight year and for the 15th time in their history, Gonzaga University's name was called when the bracket was announced Sunday for the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
The Bulldogs earned a No. 7 seed and will face No. 10 West Virginia University of the Big East Conference at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa., in Thursday's 4:20 p.m. PDT contest, the first game of the second session.
The Bulldogs-Mountaineers survivor will face the winner of No. 2 seed Ohio State University and No. 15 Loyola University of Maryland in Saturday's Third Round. OSU and Loyola Maryland will square off following the Gonzaga-WV contest.
The Pittsburgh pod winner will advance to the East Regional to be held at TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, where the Bulldogs downed the University of Connecticut 85-82 in the 2007 College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic.
West Virginia earned an at-large bid after finishing the regular season with a 19-13 overall mark and 9-9 record in the Big East. The Mountaineers fell in overtime in the opening round of the Big East Tournament to the University of Connecticut 71-67. The Mountaineers closed out the season winning only four of their final 12 contests.
The Mountaineers are appearing in their seventh NCAA Tournament in eight years and were in the 2010 Final Four.
Gonzaga (25-6, 13-3) also earned an at-large bid after losing to Saint Mary's College in the Zappos.West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Championships title game, the 15th straight WCC title-game appearance for the Zags.
