SPOKANE, Wash. - Scott Boyd has joined the Gonzaga University athletic department as Director of Annual Giving, Bulldog athletic director Mike Roth announced Thursday.

Boyd, formerly the Director of Donor Relations and Special Events at Portland State University, replaces Devon Thomas who accepted a position at the University of Louisville, his alma mater.

"Scott brings a wealth of intercollegiate athletic experience to our department. I think he'll be able to build on projects we already have established, as well as inject a new vision into our annual giving efforts," Roth said.

At PSU Boyd supervised priority seating, parking and Viking Athletic Fund donor benefits for football and men's and women's basketball. In addition, he supervised all annual fund activities that saw fundraising increase by 40 percent from 2009-11. He served as the liaison to the PSU Foundation and coordinated all annual fund gifts.

Boyd was also in charge of organizing event logistics, sponsorship procurement and event registration for the Viking Golf Classic which benefited women's athletic scholarship. He was also the event manager for the Wine and Roses dinner and auction which was the primary student-athlete scholarship fundraiser which grossed $330,000 in the two-year period from 2010-11.

Boyd joined the PSU staff in February, 2009, as the Director of Ticket Sales and was promoted to his recent position six months later. He joined PSU after two years as a marketing assistant at Montana State University.

A graduate of the University of Washington with a B.A. in psychology in 2001 and a M.E. in intercollegiate athletic leadership in 2008, Boyd got his start in athletics as a community relations intern with the Seattle Supersonics of the NBA and Seattle Storm of the WNBA in 2000 and 2001.

Boyd is looking forward to working with Gonzaga's fan base.

"Gonzaga University is a dynamic institution with a fan base that has an unmatched passion for college athletics. It is both humbling and exciting to be given the opportunity to work here. My wife and I look forward to being a part of the Zag family," Boyd said.

Boyd is married to the former Heather Hitt.
