Women's Soccer Blog: Preseason is Here; Season Starts Friday
THE BLOG IS BACK!! Each week a different Gonzaga University women's soccer player will recap the week prior. This week senior Emma Dolcetti , a senior forward, shares the highlights from the past week.Hello Zag fans,
We started our preseason training on August 1st this year, so we've been busy at work for the last 12 days and we are so excited for the upcoming 2012 season! In between the testing days, the team did some pool workouts, lifting, team dinners, and team building. The whole group has had a fun time trying to get to know the freshmen and learn even more about each other. We learned that Cricket Harber has 4 cats...Sila Tuiofea had so much love for a hamster that she hugged it to death, literally...Susan Brown used to barrel race horses and Jessica Bennett was moved to Texas and back to Spokane twice! But besides all the new facts and faces, the team has had almost two weeks to play some soccer together. What we love most!
We have a newer heart rate system this season that we are using. It has already proved to be very helpful in our recovery and making sure we get the most out of the training. This new heart rate monitor has a small attachment that clips onto our straps and we have nicknamed them Nuggets! We always make sure to grab our Nuggets and put them in their Happy Meal (on their straps) before we go out to training.
While we prepare physically for the upcoming season, we have also sat down and begun to prepare mentally. Goals have been set for this season and we hope that all our fans will come out and help us achieve these! We plan to make this the best season yet for GU women's soccer and we can't wait to see you all out there!
This past weekend, the team played the Blue vs White 11 v 11 scrimmage. It was a great way for us to prepare for our upcoming games and get all our jitters out on the game field. The blue team won the first game in penalty kicks on Friday and then won again on Sunday with a score of 3-1.
Can you believe our first game is in five days? All of our hard work will be put to the test and we are pretty excited to see what we will accomplish. We can't wait. Hope everyone is enjoying the summer. We hope to see you all out at our home opener August 17th vs South Dakota at 4 p.m.!
