Gonzaga Student-Athletes Make High Marks In Classroom
SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University's student-athletes once again showed they can perform in the classroom as well as on the competitive field, the Bulldogs posting a 3.31 cumulative grade point average for the recently-completed spring semester.
The 3.31 is the highest combined semester GPA since the spring of 2008 when Gonzaga's student-athletes posted a 3.31 GPA. The Bulldog student-athletes also continued to raise their cumulative GPA to 3.25, showing a semester-by-semester improvement since the spring of 2010.
The women's soccer and women's tennis teams posted the highest GPAs for the spring at 3.57, with men's tennis close behind at 3.56 and women's golf at 3.52. Men's tennis has the highest cumulative GPA of 3.54 with women's soccer at 3.51.
Women's crew and women's cross country/track each had nine student-athletes on the President's List with a GPA of 3.7-4.0, while women's soccer had eight on the list. Baseball and women's crew each had eight student-athletes on the Dean's List with a GPA of 3.5-3.7, while men's crew had seven make the list. There were 62 student-athletes on the President's List and 57 on the Dean's List.
"This is a reflection of how well our student-athletes juggle the demands of academics and athletics," Gonzaga athletic director Mike Roth said. "This shows the importance our student-athletes, coaches and staff put on academic, as well as athletic, performance."
Roth also complimented the academic staff, coaches and other support personnel.
"A lot of people work hard to make this happen, led by academic coordinator Mike Roden and his staff," Roth said. "But all of us, in some way, play a role in the academic successes of our student-athletes, and I am grateful for the contributions all of us make to benefit the academic endeavors of our student-athletes."
