Women's Rowing Opens 2012 Spring Season At Oregon State

SPOKANE, Wash. -

ON TAP: The Gonzaga University women's rowing team opens its 2012 spring season Saturday heading to Dexter Lake, Ore., to participate in a dual with Oregon State University.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS: Racing for the Gonzaga University versus Oregon State University dual runs from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., Saturday.

Here is the schedule:

9:00 a.m.: Novice 8+
9:15 a.m.: Varsity 4+
9:30 a.m.: Varsity 8+
9:45 a.m.: Second Varsity 8+
10 a.m.: Novice 4+
10:15 a.m.: Second Varsity 4+

WHO THE VARSITY BOAT RETURNS: The 2012 Gonzaga University women's rowing Varsity 8+ will have three rowers in its Varsity 8+ boat this Saturday that rowed in the Varsity 8+ boat a season ago. The three returning members who road in the Varsity 8+ in the West Coast Conference Championships and the WIRA Championships a season ago are Elise Perkins, Teddi McGuire and Paula Welly; all seniors.

HEAD COACH GLENN PUTYRAE'S THOUGHTS ON OPENING THE SEASON: "We're really looking forward to racing Oregon State. It has been competitive the past few times we raced and I believe it will be again on Saturday. I am looking to get solid performances out of our boats. This is the first step on the race course this season and I am excited to see where we are at."

LAST TIME VERSUS OREGON STATE: The Gonzaga University women's rowing team had a rough time in its opening dual of 2011. The Bulldogs, racing Oregon State University, won one of five races, held on Silver Lake in Medical Lake, Wash. The lone victory for the Zags was in the Second Novice 8+ with a course time of 8:19.10. The Beavers had a finish of 8:25.59.

LINEUPS:

Varsity 8+: Jordan Schroeder, Elise Perkins, Madison Keaty, Teddi McGuire, Paula Welly, Malori McGill, Olivia Miller, Erin Russel, Christine Powers.

Second Varsity 8+: Natalie Wolfrom, Naomi Medley, Chelsea Quilling, Christy Mentele, Casey Burt, Anna Olson, Jordan Davies, Renee Wyman, Becca Benoit.

Varsity 4+: Naseeb Bhangal, Sarah Atkins, Agatha Oleksiak, Olivia Murphy, Tayler Drake.

Second Varsity 4+: Lindsey Kranz, Grace Ditzler, Wendy Wigg, Sarah Milburn, Rachel Wright.

Novice 8+: Jen Hill, Erin Magee, Natalie Potts, Mari Schramm, Jamee Mason, Mary Haffner, Monica Clark, Kelly Strader, Hilary Syvertson.

Novice 4+: Kaitlin Wulf, Sage Workman, Ashley Jorgensen, Sam Olsen, Katherine Healy.

GETTING TO DEXTER LAKE
From I-5 North or South:
- Take Exit 188A Highway 58/Willamette Hwy - Towards Oakridge
- Follow Highway 58 East for approximately 13.5 miles
- Left at Jasper-Lowell Rd. (Covered Bridge is on left-hand side right before the turn)
- Follow Jasper-Lowell Rd. for 0.7 Miles
- Left on North Shore Dr. - North Shore Dr. turns into Pengra Rd.
- Lowell Recreation Site is located 0.7 miles from turn on the left hand side.
