The Bulldogs Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+ will partake in the San Diego Crew Classic Saturday and Sunday, while the Varsity 4+, Second Varsity 4+ and Novice 8+ will dual with Washington State Saturday.

ABOUT THE SAN DIEGO CREW CLASSIC: This weekend, collegiate, junior and master athletes will return to the sun-kissed water of Mission Bay for the 39th annual of the San Diego Crew Classic and compete in more than 100 races over two days. Across seven lanes, with the city skyline as a backdrop, they will race for early season honors and coveted trophies.

WAS THE HUSKY OPEN NOW DUAL WITH WASHINGTON STATE: The Gonzaga University Varsity 4+'s and the Novice 8+'s were supposed to partake in the Husky Open this weekend but there was a last minute change in plans. The Bulldogs will now race against Washington State University Saturday at Wawawai Landing outside of Pullman, Wash.

HEADS UP; ANOTHER EXCITING ADDITION TO SCHEDULE: The Gonzaga University women's rowing team is set to race at the Opening Day Regatta in Seattle, Wash., May 5. A new addition to that day is that the Varsity 8+ will be racing Argentina and the University of Washington in the Windemere Cup race for the first time ever.

GONZAGA AND THE SAN DIEGO CREW CLASSIC: The Gonzaga University women's rowing team is participating in the San Diego Crew Classic for the first time since the 2003-04 campaign. At the 2004 San Diego Crew Classic, the Bulldogs' Varsity 8+ finished first in the Third Final with a time of 7:08.97.

WHO IS RACING AT SAN DIEGO CREW CLASSIC: Both the Women's Collegiate Varsity 8+ SeaWorld Cal Cup and Women's Collegiate Second Varsity 8+ Jackie Ann Stittt Hungness Trophy events have 21 entries in each. In the Varsity 8+ heat with Gonzaga are Duke, San Diego, Kansas State, Drexel, San Diego and Fordham. In the Second Varsity 8+ heat with Gonzaga are Stanford, USC, Clemson, Oregon State, San Diego and SMU.

HOW DOES THE SAN DIEGO CREW CLASSIC WORK: There will be three heats in both the Women's Collegiate Varsity 8+ SeaWorld Cal Cup and the Women's Collegiate Second Varsity 8+ Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy. The top two boat finishers of each heat will make the Grand Final. The third and fourth finishers in each heat will make the Petite Final, while the fifth and sixth finishers in each heat will make the Third Final.

HEAD COACH GLENN PUTYRAE ON THE UPCOMING SAN DIEGO CREW CLASSIC: "We are looking forward to getting back on the race course. Despite the unusual spring weather in Spokane, I believe we have made good progress training wise. With a whole new lineup this week in both the Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+, we are now eager to see what improvements we have made from two weeks ago."

ASSISTANT COACH MARCI ROBLES ON THE UPCOMING DUAL WITH WASHINGTON STATE: "We're incredibly grateful to the WSU staff for allowing us to have a racing opportunity this weekend. They're a strong program, and lining up against them on Saturday will be helpful in getting a gage on where we stand in terms of speed with the fours and the novice boats. We'll be seeing WSU again in a few weeks, so we're looking forward to executing strong races this weekend and using the next two weeks to build upon those performances."
