Mission Statement
Student-Athlete Academic Support (MC 305) works for every Gonzaga University student-athlete by providing effective academic support to assist with the goal of earning a degree, preparing for a career or graduate school and monitoring of athletic eligibility. To ensure this process is achieved every student is asked to earn and hold a 2.5 CUM GPA or above. The department has an open door policy to listen and furnish possible options to assist you. It is very important to the Gonzaga Athletic Department and this University that your success as a student-athlete be measured by not only athletics, but also by your academic achievements.
Academic Support Services
Academic Support
The Academic Support office consists of an Academic Coordinator and a Graduate Assistant. They are here to help monitor the progress of the student-athletes, ensure that graduation is achieved in four years and make certain that they are meeting the needs required for their specific major. Additionally, other services include priority registration, individual meetings to monitor student progress and transition, and tutorial services.
The Student-Athlete Academic Support Lab is located in the Martin Centre room 305. The lab includes the Academic Coordinator's and the Graduate Assistant's offices, and eight terminals with internet access.
Tutorial Services
Currently the Student-Athlete Academic Support staff employs between 25-35 tutors each semester. The tutors tutor no more than four students per semester with weekly one-on-one or group sessions. Our tutors are required to attend a tutor training session and are only used for those courses in which they have expertise and experience in (must receive an A in the course). Student-Athletes are encouraged to get tutors for any classes they may find overly difficult or get behind due to travel. To request a tutor, student-athletes must fill out a Tutor Request Form which can be found in the Academic Lab.
Laptop Lending
The Academic Support lab contains laptops available for students to use on team road trips, study tables, or special circumstances. This gives the student-athletes the opportunity to maintain their academic excellence on the road. To reserve a laptop, student-athletes must fill out a Laptop Request Form
which can be found in the Academic Lab. The form should be filled out 48 hours to a week in advance.
