GU SAAC MISSION STATEMENT
Our purpose as the Student Athlete Advisory Committee is to generate and communicate a student-athlete voice within the Athletic Department, the West Coast Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association regarding the academic and athletic welfare of our student athletes. As role models on campus, we also wish to uphold Gonzaga's long standing humanistic, Catholic and Jesuit traditions by being firmly committed to service, opportunity, and equality.

Community Service:
The Student-Athlete Athletic Committee (SAAC) prides itself on service projects for the campus and community. The projects vary from book drives, to beautifying projects, to building homes. The SAAC tries to tackle a couple of projects a semester and tries to get as many student-athletes involved as they can.

The following is a list of some of the projects that SAAC has been involved with in recent years:
• Habitat for Humanity
• Read to Succeed
• Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery
• Union Gospel Mission
• Fit for Bloomsday Training Leaders
• Read Across America
• American Cancer Society
• March of Dimes
• GU Relay for Life
• Read-a-thon's at local elementary schools
• Gonzaga Athletes Mentoring for Excellence (GAME)
• Shriner's
• Campus Kids
• Boys and Girls Club
• Page Ahead

On February 12, 2005 the Gonzaga University Student Athlete Advisory Committee wrapped up a successful book drive as they collected 650 books to provide to Spokane area children. Gonzaga teamed up with Page Ahead to collect books at the Bulldogs women's basketball game against the Loyola Marymount University. The new and like-new children's books will be provided to five area schools to promote literacy among at-risk children.
