The Gonzaga baseball team set foot on the plush green grass of Patterson Baseball Complex and Washington Trust Field for the first time in March 2007. Then the team tested out its state-of-the-art candle lighting system April 17 and dedicated the field three days later as it faced Saint Mary’s College. The new facility also attracted fans in record numbers, as the Bulldogs welcomed more than twice as many fans to the ballpark this season as in past years and set a Gonzaga baseball attendance record with 1,514 fans at the dedication game April 20.
Patterson Baseball Complex and Washington Trust Field provided an immediate beneficial impact for the Bulldogs, as the team posted a 13-6 record when playing at home, including dropping only one of nine West Coast Conference games played at the ballpark. The complex, which is named after the family of current chairman of the Board of Trustees Michael Patterson, is detailed in brick and includes 1,300 theater-style seats. The field is named after Pete Stanton and Washington Trust Bank in Spokane, which was also a major contributor to the project.
