SAAC & Page Ahead Team Up for Their 5th Annual Book Drive
Jan. 13, 2010
SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and its members are once again partnering with Page Ahead for their fifth annual Book Drive at the January 16th women's basketball game. The Bulldogs take on the University of San Diego at 2 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used children's books to the game. Those who donate will be entered into a raffle drawing for the chance to win GU memorabilia, including autographed men's and women's basketballs, a signed women's basketball jersey, and ticket packages to the January 30th and February 20th women's basketball games as well as a baseball game of the winner's choice. Fans can also make cash donations to enter the raffle.
From the four previous collections with Page Ahead, the Zags have collected over 3,500 books and at last year's drive, they raised more than $1,000 in cash donations. Page Ahead is the leading provider of literacy services and children's books for more than 55,000 children across Washington State. Since 1990, the organization has afforded 1.9 million new books to over 600,000 children in need. SAAC is comprised of representatives from each Gonzaga athletic team whose main purpose is to serve as a student-athlete voice regarding student-athlete welfare within Gonzaga's athletic department, the West Coast Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
