Jan. 15, 2007
SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University had 111 student-athletes with a 3.5 grade point average for the recently completed first semester of the 2006-07 academic year while having one of the best semesters in the classroom in school history.
Gonzaga's varsity teams posted a 3.30 GPA for the fall semester and have a cumulative GPA of 3.23. Men's cross country had the top GPA with a 3.58 for the semester and also has the best cumulative GPA at 3.51. They were followed closely by women's cross country and women's soccer, both at 3.53 for the semester. Women's golf was right behind men's cross country with a cumulative GPA of 3.46.
Women's crew headed the list of student-athletes on the President's List (3.7-4.0 GPA) with 16 while baseball had nine student-athletes on the Dean's List (3.5-3.69 GPA).
"I have always said we take great pride in the academic achievements of our student athletes," Gonzaga athletic director Mike Roth said. "The credit goes to our student-athletes who apply themselves in the classroom as well as on the field of competition, to our coaches and to our support staff who work endlessly to provide the resources for our student-athletes to juggle the time demands of academics and athletics. My hat goes off to everyone who plays a role in achieving such high academic success."
