Gores Inducted Into High School Athletic Hall of Fame

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Heather Gores was inducted into the Arroyo Grande High School Eagle Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame, Jan. 25. Gores, in her 20th year at Gonzaga, was one of three former Arroyo Grande athletes and one community supporter to be inducted at the sixth annual awards banquet.

One of the most prolific female athletes ever at Arroyo Grande, the former Heather Norman was a four-year letterwinner in basketball and earned two varsity letters in softball before deciding to concentrate solely on basketball.

Gores, who graduated from Arroyo Grande in 1988, was a three-time girls basketball All-Northern League and All-County selection. She earned All-CIF Southern Section twice, All-CIF State honors once and was the CIF-Southern Section Player of the Year her senior season. She was also named the Northern League Most Valuable Player and the San Luis Obispo County Most Valuable Player. She earned All-Tournament honors two different times (Atascadero and Simi Valley) and was the Telegram Tribune Prep Athlete of the Week twice.

She led Arroyo Grande to a 22-4 record her senior year. They won the Northern League Championship and were a CIF 2A semifinalist.

Following graduation from Arroyo Grande, Gores earned a full basketball scholarship to Washington State University. With the Cougars, Gores set numerous offensive team records and remains in the program’s top 10 in 3-point field goals made (4th; 133), 3-point field goal percentage (8th; .353) and games played (9th; 112).

Gores served as an assistant women’s basketball coach with Washington State and Gonzaga before moving into her current athletic administrator roll with the Bulldogs. Her time at Gonzaga includes a five-year stint on the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee.
