Most Memorable Games In The Kennel

As part of the celebration of Gonzaga's final basketball season in The Kennel, Gonzaga has compiled a list of the Most Memorable Games played in The Kennel. The list was collected from fans who logged on to and submitted their selection for the Most Memorable Game in The Kennel. Fans were then given a chance to voice their opinion on which Game was the Most Memorable. Listed below are a list of the Top 10 Most Memorable Games In The Kennel as selected by the Gonzaga Fans.

Mar. 4, 1967 - Gonzaga 96, Idaho State 81
Gary Lechman scored 41 points in an era before the 3-point shot. He was the first Gonzaga player to score more than 40 points in The Kennel, a Gonzaga arena record that would stand until 1990.

Dec. 4, 1965 - Gonzaga 107, Northern Arizona 106
The first victory in The Kennel. Bill Suter scored 22 points and John Brodsky knocked down two free throws with 11 seconds left to secure the victory for Gonzaga in one of the highest scoring games in Big Sky Conference history.

Feb. 23, 1995 - Gonzaga 106, San Francisco 67
Gonzaga sets a school and West Coast Conference record for 3-pointers in a game as the Bulldogs drain 22 shots from behind the arc in a rout of the Dons.

Feb. 28, 1981 - Gonzaga 79, San Francisco 67
The San Francisco Dons, holder of the last four WCC titles, came to town led by future NBA draft picks Quentin Dailey, Wallace Bryant and John Hegwood. Gonzaga President Father Bernard Coughlin rode out of The Kennel on the shoulders of the Gonzaga students as Gonzaga prevailed.

Jan. 18, 1992 - Gonzaga 97, Loyola Marymount 95 (OT)
Geoff Goss drives the length of the floor and hits a shot a the buzzer in overtime to propel the Zags to victory over LMU. The win snaps a 10-game losing streak to the Lions.

Feb. 24, 1983 - Gonzaga 64, Santa Clara 62
Down by 18 at halftime, John Stockton willed Gonzaga to the win in the second half, as he scored 24 of his game- high 30 points after intermission.

Feb. 10, 1978 - Gonzaga 81, Idaho State 78 (4OT)
Gonzaga and Idaho State played the longest game in Kennel history, battling through 4 extra periods before the Zags emerged victorious. The games still stands as the longest in school history.

Feb. 28, 2004 - Gonzaga vs. Santa Clara
The final collegiate home game in the Kennel for the Bulldogs prior to moving into the new Gonzaga Basketball Arena for the 2004-05 season. The Kennel has become one of the toughest places to play in America with Gonzaga winning 79 percent of its home games since the building was opened prior to the 1965-66 season. The Bulldogs have won more than 380 games in The Kennel and over the last 12 seasons the Bulldogs have won 95 percent of their games played in The Kennel.

Feb. 3, 2000 - Gonzaga 62, Pepperdine 57 (Recap)
Gonzaga rallies from a 17-point second half deficit to win by five points. Matt Santangelo takes the lead for Gonzaga on a late double clutched reverse lay-in in traffic. Axel Dench later banks in a 3-pointer to cap the comeback.

Feb. 16, 2002 - Gonzaga 91, Pepperdine 78 (Recap)
In the first nationally broadcast game from The Kennel, No. 8 Gonzaga avenges its only West Coast Conference loss of the season with a win over Pepperdine on ESPN2. Dan Dickau leads Gonzaga with 26 points on the way to winning All-American honors.
