First Anthony's Scholarship Dinner A Success

May 4, 2006

SPOKANE, Wash. - On Wednesday, May 3, Gonzaga University Athletics teamed up with Anthony's HomePort Restaurant to host the first Gonzaga/Anthony's Student-Athlete Scholarship Dinner. The event was attended by 200 Gonzaga benefactors who enjoyed a night of great food and the chance to bid on Gonzaga athletic items in a silent and live auction. The event raised just under $30,000 with proceeds benefitting the Anthony's Endowed Student-Athlete Scholarship Fund.

"Gonzaga University would like to graciously thank Budd Gould and Anthony's HomePort Restaurant for their generosity in making the Student-Athlete Scholarship Benefit a huge success," stated Paul Brown, Gonzaga's Director of Athletic Giving. "The event was sold out and enjoyed a fabulous dinner. We hope this is the start to a wonderful annual fund raising event that will benefit all of our student-athletes."

In addition to the 200 Gonzaga benefactors, student-athletes and coaches from all 14 Bulldog sports were in attendance. The night also featured the recognition of a former student-athlete who has gone on to attain high acclaim in business and community service using their Gonzaga degree. The inaugural honoree was The Honorable Frank Burgess ('61 B.ed. '66 JD). Burgess was an All-American on the Bulldogs basketball team who went on to a successful career in law and currently as a Federal Judge. A plaque was presented to Anthony's HomePort which will recognize Burgess and will have the name of each future honoree added for all patrons of Anthony's HomePort to view.
