Student-Athletes Have Strong Spring Semester In Classroom
SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University’s student-athletes performed well in the classroom again during the recently-completed spring semester.
The Bulldogs had a combined department GPA of 3.26 led by the 3.44 of women’s golf and the 3.40 of both men’s and women’s track as 13 teams posted at least a 3.0 GPA. Women’s track had 13 student-athletes make the President’s List (3.7-4.0 GPA), while women’s crew had nine and men’s track and women’s soccer each had seven. Women’s rowing had 10 student-athletes atop the Dean’s List with a GPA of 3.5-3.69, followed by women’s track with seven.
Men’s basketball, with a team GPA of 3.11, was somewhat unique with three student-athletes in graduate programs the spring semester as Kelly Olynyk and Michael Hart were each in the MBA program while Drew Barham was in the Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership discipline. Hart received his MBA while Olynyk was in his first semester of the program and Barham will receive his master’s this coming school year.
In addition, Sam Dower and David Stockton of the men’s basketball team received a Bachelor of Arts degree and Bachelor of Business Administration degree, respectively, and will be enrolled in graduate school classes in the fall to once again give the squad three players enrolled in graduate school.
In all, 67 Zags were on the President’s List and 48 on the Dean’s List.
“This is a reflection of the hard work our student-athletes dedicate themselves to in the classroom and the commitment our student-athlete support services personnel have to giving our student-athletes the best resources possible to maintain a high level of academic performance,” Gonzaga athletic director Mike Roth said.
