Bulldogs Lead WCC Spring All-Academic Selections

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University placed 11 student-athletes on the West Coast Conference spring all-academic teams announced Friday by WCC Commissioner Michael Gilleran.
To be selected a student-athlete must have a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a significant contributor to the team.
Bulldog men's tennis led the way with four selections - freshman Timo Barry (3.63, business), senior Burak Berksoy (3.55, electrical engineering), sophomore Shaun Whitney (3.44, pre-med/biology) and senior Joel Wilkie (3.83, physics).
Other Bulldogs honored were baseball players Jared Hertz (senior, 3.94, finance) and Eric Rodland (sophomore, 3.70, mechanical engineering), men's golfers Anthony Buergel (sophomore, 3.96, business) and David Hill (sophomore, 3.49, computer science), women's rowers Nicole Lustig (senior, 3.86, special education) and Vicki Olson (senior. 3.74, honors biology) and women's golfer Alicia Gilb (senior, 3.77, public relations).
"We're proud of our student-athletes for what they accomplish in the classroom," Gonzaga athletic director Mike Roth said. "I think it reflects the balance we try to achieve between academics and athletics."
Gonzaga and the University of San Francisco, the latter with four selections in women's tennis, each had 11 student-athletes named to the spring all-academic teams. The teams follow:
