Lynn Holzman Selected West Coast Conference Commissioner
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference Presidents' Council has selected Lynn Holzman to serve as the third full-time Commissioner in the 62-year history of the West Coast Conference. She replaces Jamie Zaninovich, who departs later this week to become the Deputy Commissioner/Chief Operating Officer with the Pac-12 Conference.
"As chair of the WCC Presidents' Council, I am particularly pleased with Lynn Holzman's appointment given her familiarity with our membership and the depth of her experience with national issues in collegiate athletics," said Dr. Mary Lyons, University of San Diego President and Chair, West Coast Conference Presidents' Council. "The unanimous decision of the Presidents' Council to select Lynn as our new commissioner reflects our confidence in her leadership."
Holzman becomes Commissioner of the West Coast Conference after nearly two years in a senior management position in the conference office, most recently serving as Executive Senior Associate Commissioner/Chief Operating Officer. Over the past year, Holzman has worked closely with the Conference's Presidents' Council and Executive Council on all conference matters. She was charged with overseeing the conference's day-to-day affairs and has led the development of the WCC's next three-year strategic plan.
Joining the West Coast Conference staff as Senior Associate Commissioner for Governance and Administration in 2012, Holzman initially oversaw all of the conference's internal operations and facilitated all conference and NCAA governance matters. She was responsible for compliance, sport administration - including the addition of softball as the conference's 14th sport - human resources, and staffing.
"It is an honor to be selected as the next Commissioner of the West Coast Conference," Holzman said. "I am sincerely grateful to the Presidents' Council for the opportunity to lead this wonderful group of institutions that embraces the holistic development of student-athletes while providing an environment for academic and athletic excellence. I look forward to continuing to work with everyone in the West Coast Conference family as we realize our strategic vision."
Prior to joining the West Coast Conference staff, Holzman worked at the NCAA national office for 16 years, last serving as a Director of Academic and Membership Affairs (AMA). Holzman was involved in managing and facilitating membership engagement on numerous Division I governance issues. In that role, she also provided guidance to NCAA leadership and various other organizations such as the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in nearly all athletic governance areas - including academic standards, amateurism, diversity, gender equity and Title IX, legislative proposals, strategic planning, and student-athlete well-being. She was also a member of the senior management team that oversaw AMA's resource allocation, budget and strategic planning, and business performance management.
During her career, Holzman has been a member and on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA), National Association of Athletics Compliance and the WBCA. She is also a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the Bay Area Women's Sports Initiative (BAWSI). She was named NACWAA's Conference/Organization Administrator of the Year in 2013.
A former captain of the women's basketball team while earning her Bachelors degree at Kansas State University, Holzman has since earned a Masters degree from the University of North Carolina and a Masters of Business Administration from Purdue University.
