WCC Honors 16 Bulldogs On Spring All-Academic Squads

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University had 16 student-athletes named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic teams for the recently-completed spring season, WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich announced Thursday.

Bulldog baseball led the way with six selections - senior pitcher Liam Baron (3.45 grade-point average, sport management), senior outfielder Mark Castellitto (3.58, MBA graduate program), junior catcher Cameron Edman (3.60, applied communications), sophomore first baseman Andy Hunter (3.42, mechanical engineering), senior pitcher Andy Stumetz (3.53, mechanical engineering) and sophomore outfielder Chris Sturdivant.

Men's golf and women's rowing each had three selections. Men's golfers selected were senior Derek Cheney (3.48, marketing), junior Kyle Huus (3.71 accounting and junior Francis Santiago (3.71, business). Women's rowers named to the team were junior Emily Wilson (3.67, nursing), junior Hannah Winters (3.55, biology and junior Therese Yrani (3.62, psychology).

Men's tennis had a pair of honorees in senior Roman Dojcak (3.83, business administration) and sophomore Scott Sullivan (3.20, biology). Sophomore Jessica Howe of the women's golf team (3.73, business) and junior Clare Dodge of the women's tennis squad (3.38, psychology) rounded out the Gonzaga selections.

"We are proud of the accomplishments of our student-athletes both on and off the field, and this recognition reinforces we are working as hard in the classroom as we are in the competitive arena," Gonzaga athletic director Mike Roth said. "Our student-athletes, coaches and support staff are to be commended for the emphasis placed on academics at Gonzaga."
