Miller Hired As Academic Coordinator
July 23, 2003
SPOKANE, Wash. - Mike Miller has joined Gonzaga University's athletic department as academic coordinator, Bulldogs athletic director Mike Roth announced today.
The 1995 graduate of the University of La Verne (California) with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and 1998 graduate of Chapman University in Orange, Calif., with a Master of Arts Counseling-Career will be responsible for all academic-related issues for Gonzaga's more than 300 student-athletes.
Miller comes to Gonzaga from Cerritos Community College in Norwalk, Calif., where he was an Athletic Academic Counselor. He also worked in the same capacity for California State University-Fullerton where he was also the Life Skills Coordinator for the Titans. He was also an advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Board at CSUF.
"We are excited to have Mike join our department," Roth said. "Compliance and academics are so important to the day-to-day operations of the department we believed it was necessary to split the two areas. Mike is a former student-athlete who knows the demands placed on both the student and the athlete."
Roth said Shannon (Stanford) Strahl, who was responsible for both academics and compliance, will be able to concentrate her energies fulltime on compliance.
Miller was a 1993 National Association of Basketball Coaches Scholar-Athlete and participated in the 1993 NCAA Division III national tournament as La Verne advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.
