Gonzaga Student-Athletes Among Best On West Coast In Graduation Rate

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University student-athletes rank among the best on the West Coast as the NCAA released it's latest graduation rates. Not only have the Bulldogs had tremendous success in their various athlete venues, they have also succeeded in the classroom with a 73 percent graduation rate for the freshman class entering during the 1996-97 school year. The report is based on student-athlete graduation rates over a four-year period. The 73 percent graduation rate is the best among Washington NCAA Division I schools and ranks third for NCAA Division I schools in the Western States of California, Oregon and Washington.
Stanford University led all West Coast schools with an 87 percent graduation rate while Santa Clara University was second on the list at 78 percent. Gonzaga was third on that list with 73 percent, tied with the University of San Diego and UC Santa Barbara. The University of Portland and the University of Oregon claimed top honors for the State of Oregon at 65 percent.
The other three NCAA Division I schools in Washington were the University of Washington with a 66 percent graduation rate, followed by Washington State University at 63 percent and Eastern Washington University at 51 percent.
