Eight Earn Fall WCC All-Academic Honor
Dec. 14, 2004
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Eight Gonzaga University student-athletes have been named to the 2004 West Coast Conference fall all-academic teams.
The Bulldogs cross country team placed three seniors on the team - Ryan Anderson (3.46 grade point average, civil engineering), Eric Berge (3.47, religious studies) and Joe Manning (3.84, journalism). The trio were also instrumental in Gonzaga's runner-up finish in the WCC Cross Country Championships and 17th-place finish in the NCAA West Regional Cross Country Championships.
Other Bulldogs earning fall academic honors were women's cross country runners junior Emily Buck (3.51, exercise science) and senior Jill Semenza (3.37, biology); men's soccer players junior Robert Anderson (3.70, history) and senior Arni Ingi Pjetursson (3.77, business), and volleyball player senior Emilee Gihring (3.46, business).
To be considered, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his or her team.
"These honorees represent the commitment of WCC student-athletes to both academic and athletic excellence," said WCC Commissioner Michael Gilleran. "Every year it's a difficult process to narrow the long list of qualified nominees from each institution. All of those nominated should be proud of their achievements."
